America The Beautiful For All Coalition Denounces Anticipated Interior Reduction in Force
WASHINGTON, DC – Members of the America the Beautiful for All Coalition are raising alarming concerns about the U.S. Department of the Interior’s most recent proposed reduction in force, which will have catastrophic impacts on local communities across the country. These cuts come on top of mass resignations and retirements in recent months. We urge journalists to contact the coalition to be connected with expert sources speaking to public lands, wildlife, and ocean issues among others in Interior's portfolio.
America the Beautiful for All Coalition Executive Director Shantha Ready Alonso said of the staffing cuts, “During my time working at Interior, I got to see firsthand how communities across the United States and territories multiply government investments through community partnerships. The federal government often anchors collaborative efforts for scientific progress, as well as for conserving our natural and cultural heritage. Cutting the core, dependable investment of the federal government’s staff time and expertise could have a devastating exponential impact of disinvestment — breaking up longstanding public-private partnerships. This is especially dangerous in communities that have already suffered chronic disinvestment.”
The America the Beautiful For All Coalition is comprised of hundreds of organizations representing millions of Americans who unite under a shared agenda to build shared power that conserves our water, land and wildlife for future generations.
