Together We are Facing the Threat of Public Lands Sell-Off

Jun 25, 2025

Congress continues to negotiate the budget reconciliation package. While Senator Mike Lee's (UT) proposed public land sell-off amendment has been dramatically scaled back, it still is an unprecedented proposal to sell off public lands. Now is the time to call on the Senate to remove this amendment completely. Call your senators using this link.

The America the Beautiful for All Coalition held an education webinar about advocacy tactics, and below are some highlights.

Why is this public lands sell-off proposal so dangerous?

Can you put this public lands sell-off proposal in context as it relates to the rights of Tribes?

Public lands are usually not suitable for affordable housing?

How can we use The Wilderness Society's map to identify what places are at risk? Can you share an example?

How can people with ties to threatened Western public lands effectively get the message out?

What's next when it comes to public lands sell-off?

Senator Mike Lee (UT) posted this tweet on June 24, 2025. His tone reveals he and his Senate colleagues received substantial negative feedback about his proposal. (Good job, everyone!) However, his tweet also makes it sound like he will persist in his attempts to sell off public lands. When the budget reconciliation process is over, we may see other versions of this proposal again soon. We need to speak firmly and loudly so Congress understands that almost all Americans are united in opposing public lands liquidation. Call your senators.
