WASHINGTON, DC — In response to the formation of the People’s Environmental Justice Caucus in the U.S. House of Representatives, co-chaired by Congresswomen Summer Lee (PA-12), Adelita Grijalva (AZ-7), and Rashida Tlaib (MI-12), Shantha Ready Alonso, Executive Director of the America the Beautiful for All Coalition, issues the following statement:
"Over the past decade, every win for the communities that depend on our public lands, water, ocean, and wildlife was the result of public input from hundreds of thousands across the United States, Territories, and Tribal Nations. Meaningful public participation in environmental law and regulation is the calling that the People's Environmental Justice Caucus responds to. We celebrate the formation of this landmark caucus as a body that will support the majority in favor of safer air, healthier water, thriving ecosystems, and equitable access to nature for all."
The caucus will build on the legacies of the late Reps. Raúl Grijalva and Donald McEachin, who first introduced the landmark Environmental Justice for All Act in 2020. Their work complements the work of the Senate Environmental Justice Caucus, co-led by Senators Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) and Cory Booker (D-NJ).
The recorded program from the U.S. House of Representatives People's Environmental Justice Caucus launch day on March 26, 2026 is available here.
